Post-Brexit Customs Clearance: Weekly LCL Imports from Rotterdam
A British manufacturer importing weekly LCL consignments from Dutch suppliers was facing recurring customs holds and penalty charges following Brexit rule changes.
The Challenge
Post-Brexit customs requirements had changed significantly. The client’s previous broker was filing incorrect commodity codes and missing postponed VAT accounting elections, resulting in three holds in two months and over £12,000 in demurrage charges.
Our Solution
ASA Logistics conducted a full customs audit, corrected 14 HS code classifications, registered the client for Customs Duty Deferment, and took over weekly CDS import declarations. We also introduced a pre-arrival document check process.
The Outcome
Zero customs holds in the 6 months following onboarding. The client recovered £8,400 in overpaid duties through a retrospective amendment process. Weekly clearance time reduced from 3 days to same-day.
